BRING LAPTOP TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY WITH A FULLY CHARGED BATTERY.

There is a Help Desk in the Media Center that will assist you with laptops issues.  Before you visit the Help Desk, try these troubleshooting tips.


RESTART YOUR LAPTOP

  • if your laptop was on when you entered school.  If you don’t, you may not be able to connect to wireless.
  • if your laptop is sluggish, slow, mouse is skipping.
  • if programs won’t open. Word freezes. Sound is choppy.
  • before you bring your laptop to the Help Desk.

 

CAN’T LOGON TO THE NETWORK – Take laptop to the Help Desk in the Media Center and plug laptop into a network cable.  Then connect to wireless.

 

NO WIFI is caused by pressing the F11 key, which disables the Wi-Fi. Press the F11 key to turn Wi-Fi back on. If there is still no Wi-Fi you should plug laptop into a network cable and restart the laptop. 

 

LAPTOP WONT BOOT TO WINDOWS - Press and hold the power button for 45 seconds (make sure the power light turns off) then release the power button. Turn it on.

 

NO SOUND – Press and hold the fn key and press f5 key to unmute.  

 

SOUND IS TOO LOW OR HIGH – Press and hold the fn key and press either the f6 (lower) or f7 (higher) key.

 

TURN ON AND OFF MICROPHONE – Press keys fn and f8

 

BLACK SCREEN AND POWER LIGHT IS SLOWLY BLINKING - is caused by pressing the F12 (moon) key putting laptop into sleep mode. Press the power button to wake it up.

 

TYPING ISSUES, caused by pressing f10 key, which enables the 10 keypad on laptop. Press f10 key to disable 10 keypad.  

 

WANT TO USE KEYPAD – Press f10 key.  

 

FUNCTION KEYS NOT WORKING means the functions keys are locked. To unlock press and hold the function key and then press the shift key (fn lock)

 

SET CHROME AS DEFAULT INTERNET BROWSER IF

  • no sound when using browser
  • issues in Canvas
  • issues with Infinite Campus

 

ERROR MESSAGES:

 

SYSTEM IS LOW ON RESOURCES– Restart laptop.  Make sure power light turns off.

 

NO LOGON SERVERS AVAILABLE– Count to 10 and try again.  If it still doesn’t work, plug the laptop into a network cable and try again.

 

TRUST RELATIONSHIP – restart the laptop
